BERG & BLOOMFIELD
We produce Contemporary Woodcrafts and Ceramics from clocks and coasters to chopping boards and furniture.
My woodworking career is largely self-taught. From simple beginnings making shake style kitchen units from reclaimed oak flooring, I have fine tunes my skills to making complicated geometric chopping boards and individual pieces of furniture.
Initially, I used reclaimed hardwoods donated from various builder contacts. I soon amassed various species of hardwood, which enabled me to look at ways of incorporating these into individual pieces of furniture.
Using these hardwoods with the different textures, colours and end grain patterns, I have made practical pieces including knife blocks, three dimensional effect boards, drop wood side tables, jewellery boxes and console tables.
I am a firm believer of the William Morris quote “ To have nothing in your home that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.”
I work with a variety of clays, including porcelain, earthenware and stoneware. I produce both hand built and hand thrown items with individual floral, petal and geometric patterns to give a “retro” feel to my bespoke products.
I have developed my ideas and techniques over the years and try to create my patterns using layers of different coloured slips.
I create hand built clocks, soap dishes and trinket dishes as well as thrown, compost and utensils jars and hanging plant pots. Using porcelain I create delicate Jewellery, decorations and porcelain tiles for individual greeting cards.
Recently, we have been working together to create products that incorporate both wood and ceramics such as wooden drawers with ceramic fronts.
