NIKKI WILLIAMS GLASS
Fusion, Church Road, Jackfiled, Shropshire TF8 7AP
Glass is my passion.
I trained at the university of Wolverhampton, the international Glass centre at Brierly Hill, won scholarships to study at Pilchuck Glass School in Seattle and worked from the red house Glass cone In Stourbridge, home of British Glass making; In order to develop my own style of work.
Now with over twenty years’ experience blowing and working with glass, our studio is based in the wonderfully dramatic and modern architectural building called Fusion sitting within the historical site of the Jackfield tile Museum. Such contrasts are also present throughout my work both during the making and in the finished pieces.
The tools and skills used in glass blowing have barely changed over thousands of years, apart from a kitchen knife, copper pipe or whatever other tool I may adapt in order to create my work or make marks. I love to be resourceful and never tire of the delights, trials and challenges of working with this super cooled liquid that is both intense and physical.
My work is a combination of organic form and contrasting surfaces that invite you to inspect, move around and yes please touch the glass. It’s my intention to create sculptural work that keeps on giving, keeps on revealing a new angle viewpoint texture meaning or reflection. An expression of the way I see things.
Whereas you will rarely see myself at the events, preferring very much to stay behind the scenes you will certainly meet my wonderful partner David whose equal passion and extensive knowledge will help explain the processes and details of the work.
You are also welcomed to visit the studio and see where the pieces are dreamt up or even attend one of our pre- bookable fused glass workshops that we run alongside the studio practice.
